Something Completely New!

In Quilting by Lisa Burnett

Quilt Market is next week!  It always seem to come around so quickly and we seem to panic right before with getting things finished.  This year will be a little different for us.  We have a very special high school graduation in our family this year, and it falls on Quilt Market weekend.  None of us would miss that graduation for the world, so unfortunately, we won’t be in Kansas City.  But……. we still have something major to debut there!  Moda will be showing our newest program.  It’s not a new fabric collection (although we will be showing a new one of those this summer).  It’s something completely different.  We call it Sweetwater Printworks.

If you have followed us for any amount of time, you know that we are kind of obsessed with words.  We use words in our designs all the time.  We have always wanted to use big words in quilts- where the words are the focal point of the quilt.  We finally got our wish!  We collaborated with Moda to create the most amazing quilt panels.  It’s not really fair to call them a panel.  They are actually quilt tops in themselves!  They are sized 54″ x 65″. We have four different designs:

Amazing Grace:

Use Kind Words:

Love is Patient:

Sunshine:

These are so fun and versatile.  If you want to make a really quick quilt- just add some batting and backing, quilt as desired and bind!  It really couldn’t be any easier than that.

This is exactly what we have always had in mind!  Of course, you can always embellish the panels and make them your own.  On this sunshine quilt, we did just a bit of hand stitching around the letters.  Also notice the adorable chicken wire quilting.  My favorite.

You can also make a simple border.

We experimented with adding some colorful fabric to the black and white panel.

You can also create a frame to make a beautiful, large wall hanging.  This may be my favorite.

There really are a zillion things you can do with these panels.  In person, they really are very large- unlike any word related project we have ever done.  We also thought it might be cool to reduce each design and put 4 small panels into one large panel.  Here is what that looks like:

We call this one our Sampler Panel.  The idea is to cut these apart and make smaller items.  Here is a look at what we have done with the Sampler:

We are so excited to be able to share a peek of Printworks with you.  If you are a store owner and going to Market next week, make sure to stop by Moda to see all the samples in person.  We are also working on an idea booklet that includes all these projects.  That will be available in August, the same time the panels will be shipping to stores.

You will also have the opportunity to purchase the panels and idea book on our site.  Details on that will be available in the next few weeks.  Hope you love Printworks as much as we do.  Have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend!
